Live DEMO Challenge

*Signup will occur at the Live DEMOlition Event® on a first-come, first served basis. Participants must be registered for the Annual Convention & Expo to be eligible.

Challenge Components

The Operator's Challenge is a timed skills competition where operators demonstrate their expertise, precision, speed, and versatility with CAT equipment through multiple distinct stages. Competitors will operate two machines—a MH3032 material handler and a 938M wheel loader—completing various tasks under time pressure.

Challenge Stages 

  1. MH3032 Material Handler with Orange Peel Grapple
    1. Tire Stacking Challenge: Use the grapple to pick up tires scattered around a vertical pole and stack them onto the pole, then remove them
    2. Concrete Block Challenge: Pick up and stack concrete blocks, then carefully deconstruct the stack
  2. 938M Wheel Loader with Forks and Remote Station Control
    1. Cab Control Course: Operate the loader from the cab through a cone course to retrieve a pallet with an object balanced on top. Return the pallet to the starting position. Each cone hit or object displacement adds penalty time.
    2. Remote Control Course: Complete the exact same cone obstacle course, but the participant will operate the loader from the remote station trailer using cameras and remote controls.  

Scoring System:

  • All stage times and penalties are combined
  • Cone hits and displaced objects add penalty to total
  • Lowest combined time wins
